Back From Break
By Jason H. on January 7, 2007 in mp3blog
Hey all. Welcome back. Hope you're pumped. Break was sweet for me. How about you? Well this is a music blog, so I'll share with you some of the music I enjoyed most this break.
First, Alexander "Skip" Spence's Oar burrowed into my head through my ears and stayed there for weeks. After the first song I was captivated, and the whole album cast a spell on me. No joke. The story is that, in 1969, upon release from a 6 month vacation in a mental institution, Skip, formerly of Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape, bought a motorcycle, rode down to Nashville, and recorded all the parts of Oar himself over the course of two weeks. Then he went on his way and that was it, nothing more from him. Here's "Grey/Afro." It's the last song on the album. The song was originally a suite consisting of "Grey/Afro" segueing seamlessly into "This Time Has Come." The latter song was left of the LP, so the album actually ended with a ade out. On the CD reissue the full version is included spanning two tracks. This explains why "Grey/Afro" cuts off abruptly at the end. Just don't want you to think that something screwed up.

Second, Jandek. Jandek jandek jan deckced.

Here's "Governor Rhodes" off the album Telegraph Melts. (We have this one on vinyl in the record libe!)

Last, I came across Sibylle Baier's album Colour Green having no idea who she was or what it would sound like. It was released in 2006 but was recorded at her home during 1973. I'm still playing it constantly. In fact it has inspired me to pick up my guitar and try to learn the songs, which I really hardly ever do. This music is magic indeed. Here's "I Lost Something in the Hills."

Hope these songs enchant you like they enchant me.
