Local Anhesthetic

Denver Punk. I thought my conception of the American 80s hardcore was relatively large and accurate in scope. Having not participated in it, I have no strong regional feelings, yet somehow the Denver scene had never reached my ears. The Local Anhesthetic Complication is more than your typical punk collection. It exists on the musical space covering noise, new wave, and hardcore. These bands are largely unknown, but of utmost historical importance at least for Denver Punks.

The Frantix - My Dad's A Fucking Alcoholic

Sometimes when an amp is slightly broken and the volume is at 10, the most terrific sound comes out. And how better to express anger that yelling "MY DAD"S A FUCKING ALCOHOLIC" over guitar feedback. If anything, the repetition expresses the boredom and drive of these punks. "my dad's a fucking alcoholic", but who cares, we are here anyways.

Gluons with Allen Ginsberg - Birdbrain

Yes, the Allen Ginsberg. In physics, a gluon is an elementary particle that helps glues protons and neutrons. Allen Ginsgerg's rants, nonsense political lines. Beat poetry, punk, and conspiracy theories are finally combined. My favorite lines are: "birdbrain is the ultimate product of capitalism" and "he invented the theory of relativity so the rockwell corporation could make neutron bombs and flatten Colorado." It's either the ultimate joke about cold war theories, or the ultimate conspiracy.

Jeri Rossi - I Left My Heart But I Don't Know Where

The title sounds like a country ballad, and for the first 3 second it almost launches into one. Instead, screaming saxophones, huge drums, and feedback support Jeri's trembling, scary voice. Like Lydia Lunch, it sounds like she might jump out of the speakers onto my floor and strangle me. Also on the disc is her cover of James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." These are mutant, fucked up ballads.

(p.s. for you KRLXers, it's in the record libe)
