Imitation = Flattery?

Chicago duo, Walter Meego, make traditional electro-pop with standard verses and choruses that could fit nicely on the soundtrack to any John Hughes film. The two met while students at the University of Illinois in 2003 and have recorded a sizable output of music since this time. Voyager is the band's first full-length release.

Again, the record is innocuous and playful, but the litany of neo-synth pop that has come out this year is growing tiresome. Between M83, Cut Copy, and Crystal Castles, etc., I'm beginning to lose sense of the current date. The pervasive presence of Wayfarers, boat shoes, and pastel-hued polos is also somewhat jarring. Nonetheless, I enjoy all of these albums, but at the end of the day I'd much rather turn up the volume on "Bizarre Love Triangle," than dance to these imitators.
